This past weekend Los Angeles was a buzz with some of Hollywood’s best and brightest being honored with awards shows across the city.
Saturday night the IFC Films + Sundance Selects’ Spirit Awards had artists and creators celebrating a year’s good work at Santa Monica’s 41 Ocean Club. Among the films nominated were Certain Women, Kiki, The Childhood of a Leader plus the 2017 releases of American Fable, Wolves, Personal Shopper, I Daniel Blake, Graduation, Queen of the Desert, Chuck, Citizen Jane: The Battle For the City, Wakefield, The Trip to Spain, The Journey, Band Aid, and 78/52.
Those involved were excited to let loose Saturday and converse with creative colleagues. Besides a beautiful venue with a sunset perfect beach view, there were plenty of guests stealing the spotlight from their surroundings. Guests included:
Director Alexandre O. Philippe
Catfish Producer and Creator Nev Schulman with Laura Perlongo
Editor Joi McMillon
Actress Mickey Sumner with Chris Kantrowitz
Director Taika Waititi
Director Ezra Edelman
Co-Presidents of IFC Films Jonathan Sehring; and Lisa Schwartz
Peet’s Coffee and Hendrick’s Gin sponsored the party, giving the attendees plenty to sip and sample. Energy was renewed with the help of a Peet’s Coffee bar and Hendrick’s was used in delicious specialty cocktails. The party was such a success that it was extended for an extra hour before the crowd dispersed to other after parties or to get some much-needed rest after all of the excitement and, of course, to start preparing for next year.
