Je’Caryous Johnson has once again blessed the entertainment world with another hit for the stages and its coming to Brooklyn, NY. The writer, producer and director’s latest comedic drama, Married But Single, gives men and women across the country a closer look at one couple who had achieved the ultimate married life, but longed for the single life they once had and another couple who couldn’t see eye to eye on whether true commitment eventually led to marriage.

For almost two decades Johnson has changed urban theatre and has been met with great success. His career began when he began to turn African-American romance novels into plays. Some of Johnson’s other hit plays have included Love Overboard with R&B hit makers Avant & Keke Wyatt, Men Cry in the Dark with Allen Payne, The Maintenance Man with Billy Dee Williams, Friends and Lovers and Cheaters with Grammy Award winning singer Brian McKnight, Confessions with the late Gerald LeVert, Men, Money & Gold Diggers with actress Robin Givens, Whatever She Wants with Boris Kodjoe and Richard Roundtree, 3 Ways To Get A Husband with legendary actor Billy Dee Williams, Cheaper to Keep Her with Vivica A. Fox and Marriage Material with Jill Marie Jones.

In the play Sharon Wilson’s (LisaRaye McCoy) life particularly that of her man – R&B sensation Julian Johnson (Terrell Carter) has always been in the spotlight. Julian has spent his life singing about love, showing couples what love is and catering to the emotional needs of women around the world, but failing to focus on the one woman he vowed to cherish forever. So, while Julian fails to step up and finally commit, an old flame of Sharon’s (Robert Christopher Riley) steps back into her life to attend to her needs the right way. Lisa (Chrisette Michele) and Lance (Samson Logan) have been friends for as long as they could remember. They always had hopes of rising to the top of the music industry as lovers and friends. But, somewhere along the way, other people and other pursuits and passions got in the way and they parted ways. Now, fast forward many years later, Lisa and Lance are finally married, but to different people. They must finally face the harsh reality of being married, but seemingly single. They both must try to pick up the pieces of a love that’s been deteriorating since the day they said, “I Do.” What began as a happily ever after for Sharon and Julian and Lance and Lisa has now turned into hell on wheels.

“We are a truly special, unique and diverse group of people who love hard and pursue relationships in such a passionately driven way,” said Johnson. “With that said, that same passion and love sometimes drive us to be at odds with the very people who are the most important to us; especially when we feel like that love is being threatened or compromised in any way. My goal is to help my audiences see how to fight, but with the power of love and not divisiveness or destruction. It is with that thinking, that I am constantly working through my shows to explore love and uncover varying degrees of relationships between the sexes.”

Johnson is also known for casting his shows with Hollywood’s sexiest and most alluring vixens along with some of the industry’s biggest heartthrobs and in Married but Single he doesn’t disappoint. Actress LisaRaye McCoy and Award-Winning R&B singer Chrisette Michele lead the star-studded cast.  McCoy gained mainstream notoriety in the cult classic The Players Club and most recently starred in the hit VH1 Series, Single Ladies. Michele soared to the top of the charts with the hits “If I Have My Way,” “Epiphany” and “A Couple of Forevers” and was most recently featured on TV One’s R&B Divas Los Angeles. NAACP Award winning actor Clifton Powell (Ray, The Gospel, Next Friday & Friday After Next) Carl Anthony Payne from the cult classic comedy Martin and Brooklyn native Robert Christopher Riley from VH1’s hugely successful drama Hit The Floor round out the big-name, celebrity cast. Other actors in the ensemble include Terrell Carter, Samson Logan, La’Myia Good and Skye Griffin.
