Madlib Shares A Taste Of His Collab With Blu And MED

Madlib’s name is etched into records that at the most switched the entire flow of the genre and at the very least, shook the riverbed.

Every one of Madlib’s contributions are inevitably lauded and with good reason. Last year, through linking up with Gary, Indiana emcee Freddie Gibbs, Madlib built a smokey noire style soundscape allowing Gibbs to deliver his gangster bravado with ease.

This year Madlib is taking his midas touch over to emcees MED and Blu. I’m not surprised by MED as he isn’t a stranger to working with Madlib but Blu’s presence in this collaboration is insanely important. Blu has been handed opportunity over opportunity to be a legend. His shortcomings have nothing to do with his ability as a rapper but rather the weak mixing on his albums. You might find better mixing in a Soundcloud rapper’s discography; so with Madlib handling the production and not letting Blu mix there’s a potential for a strong classic LP.

Speaking in terms of the single, it’s amazing. The beat is great but that’s to be expected when it’s coming out of Madlib’s kitchen. MED’s flow is impeccable, throwing a barrage of internal rhymes in the first verse. Hearing Blu’s voice actually clear is shocking in the best of ways, even throwing a hint to his recording quality:

It sound royal when you let Madlib design sound for you

Overall the track is really great and a good albeit small taste of what Madlib has done with these talented emcees.
