Fashion design students from Pratt Institute had the amazing opportunity to pair up with the brand ’47 for the ‘47 Redesign fashion show on Thursday evening at the National Sawdust in Brooklyn.

Five students showcased their micro collections of the redesigned ’47 collection as they turned each look into their own look and specialty.

’47 is a sports lifestyle brand that is partnered with NFL, MLB, NBA, and so many more professional and college leagues. The designer’s collections were judged by designers and CFDA/Vogue fashion finalist, Rochambeau and Aluna Francis of the musical duo of AlunaGeorge.

The five women who participated in the night’s show were all so talented, but it was the designer, Jun Young Woo’s all men collection who was announced winner by the Chairperson of the Fashion Department, Jennifer Minniti as they embraced in a hug. Woo’s collection was a mix of cool factor with the stack of mini pillows for a shirt and long sleeves for a trend alert.

What did you think about the collections and also the winner’s collection tonight?

Aluna Francis: It was really close. We looked at a quite a few different criteria; how their designs worked together in a cohesive idea, what their concept behind it was and how well it was exclusively presented. With that in mind, the decision was unanimous between the judges.

Describe what fashion it means to you?

Aluna Francis: Fashion for me is another mode of expression for my music and identity as a musician. So I don’t tend to get myself highly involved in fashion politics and what a trend is. Everything I wear is based on my own taste and what I’m trying to take with my own image.
