“Lifetime Presents Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes” premiered this past June 25th bringing smiles and hope to all those who watched.
Still available for viewing on Facebook and Lifetime, the one-hour long special celebrates all the brave and trail-blazing women that have stepped up this past couple of months.
Amid the prevalent coronavirus pandemic, women all across the country and the world have put their lives in harm’s way to help those in need. Robin Roberts hosts the virtual honoring of many inspiring women, each introduced by a different celebrity. Past honorees Lavern Cox, Jennifer Garner, Tiffany Haddish, Gigi Hadid, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Nicole Kidman, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, Helen Mirren and Natalie Portman appear to share their gratitude to these amazing women.
In a time of uncertainty, Variety inspires and encourages humanity. The incredible work of women, of all ethnicities, is so easily forgotten but they “are the ones rolling up their sleeves, giving us hope, and just getting us through this.”
The special features a diversity of women who have helped so many people through this difficult time. Instead of heroes, actress Tiffany Haddish calls them “she-roes.”
One woman located on the South Side of Chicago named Diane has delivered over 20,000 meals, thousands of masks, gloves, and sanitizers, as well as thousands of face shields. “The packages are made by people who risk their lives to help people they do not know.”
Another woman, Jasmine Crowe, founder and CEO of “GOODR” has delivered over one million meals just in Atlanta, Georgia. After hearing the news of schools closing due to the coronavirus pandemic, Crowe immediately began calling local businesses asking them not to throw out any of their edible food so “GOODR” could come, collect, and repackaged it for children and any others experiencing hunger. Within three days, the organization received 200,000 pounds of food. With the slogan “Eat more, waste less,” GOODR truly has fed so many hungry lives.
During this pandemic, domestic violence has increased dramatically since the start of quarantine. Esta Soler, introduced by Nicole Kidman, is the founder of Futures Without Violence. Soler has raced to help other women and children find help and safety during this chaotic time.
From doctors and nurses, to researchers and teachers, to refugee leaders, so many more women on the frontlines are honored in this special. They have truly risked their own lives to help and save countless others.
In a time of increased depression and anxieties present in society, “Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes” will surely add a smile to your face.
