Last night Lifetime unveiled their upfront lineups for 2019 and 2020.
Lifetime has championed women in entertainment for over 35 years and plans on carrying on that legacy into the present and future with its upcoming lineup for the 2019 and 2020 network year. With upcoming specials, biopics, series and docuseries centered around women, Lifetime aims to highlight the reality women face by giving them a voice, a platform and a medium to share their experiences much like the brave women who shared their harrowing memories of their time with R. Kelly in Lifetime’s powerful docuseries Surviving R. Kelly which premiered earlier this year.
Lifetime takes great care and consideration while sharing the stories of survivors, so much so that it plans to expand on Elizabeth Smart’s story with its upcoming, 90-minute documentary Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case. Premiering April 27th, Smart Justice: The Jayme Closs Case will utilize Smart’s interviews as well as round table discussions by other abduction victims to help shed light on Jayme’s story. Lifetime helping share victim’s stories doesn’t end here, in fact 2020 will feature documentary From Darkness to Light in which executive producer and three-time gold medalist Aly Raisman gives sexual assault survivors a safe space to tell their survival stories. “Lifetime has proven it’s as brand that believes in and stands behind the power and courage of female voices,” said Gena McCarthy, EVP, Head of Programming, Lifetime Unscripted and Head of Programming FYI.
Upcoming unscripted series slated for 2020 include Jo Frost’s Supernanny back with 20 new episodes and all-new docu-series Hopelessly In Love which follows the tragic relationships of star-crossed lovers such as Anna Nicole Smith and Larry Birkhead, Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans and many more. Music and womanhood are further explored on the scripted front with Salt-N-Pepa, a series that will follow Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton musical journey from humble beginnings to fame and success all while navigating through the male-dominated hip hop world. Stay tuned for these and more groundbreaking series arriving this year and 2020 only on Lifetime.
