HBO Max’s LEGENDARY Celebrates “Into the Future of Fashion” in honor of the Smithsonian’s 175th Anniversary in Washington, D.C.
written by Gaëlle Claude
When it comes to fashion, many don’t realize how impactful it is on every society. It is all around us every day, just like oxygen, water and other elements we use daily. Someone’s outfit can speak for them, before they do. As time goes by and we see time evolving, we also can see how fashion changes. The Future of Fashion, a futuristic fashion, illustrated these ideas on May 12. In celebration of 175th Anniversary of The Smithsonian. The incredible fashion show took place at the Art and Industries Building of The Smithsonian, in Washington DC. The iconic futuristic museum is currently filled with advanced technology and information that we may have not thought about or noticed before which made it the perfect location for the show. The Future of Fashion show took its guests on a trip into the future with the sustainable, equitable and inclusive designs. Every model in attendance wore an article of clothing that gave us an idea of what fashion may look like in the next decades, whether it was the whole outfit, accessories or hairstyle. The designers had a wide variety of clothing that you don’t see on day-to-day basis. They allowed themselves to think freely and add a twist to what we may see in the future. It almost gave a sense of being in a different dimension. Not to mention some of the designers traveled from other countries to attend the show, so there were also different outlooks in fashion, based on different parts of the world. The colors were bold, the designs were unexpected, and the atmosphere was exactly what you would expect. The guests were also in their futuristic outfits which made the whole experience outstanding. The Future of Fashion was simply mind-blowing and out of this world!
There are only two words to describe the 2022 inaugural SpeakOut “I am” Awards. The awards ceremony was simply inspiring and uplifting. As many may know, SpeakOut is a nonprofit community engagement organization that advocates for same-gender-loving men and women of color. Founded in 2017, this organization now supports more than 6,000 individuals. The Founder, Anthonio Driver explained that the mission of his organization is to educate, support, and connect LGBTQ+community of color through social media engagement, mentorship, personal empowerment, and health awareness. Many have expressed that SpeakOut changed their lives for the better. It showed in the contagious and positive energy that was present at the “I Am” awards ceremony. The event was hosted by the one and only, Vivica A. Fox and Los Angeles-based aspiring actor, J’Lamar. The hosts recognized many trailblazing individuals who have contributed to the past, present, and future of the LGBTQ+ community. The evening started at the Hamilton with a media press, where all guests showed up dressed in their best outfits. During that time, people got to meet and greet celebrities, and old and new friends while they sipped on some fine cocktails. After mingling, the guests were welcomed with live performances by artists like Avery Wilson, Summer Pearson, DJ Jash Jay, and many more. Aside from the great ambiance and the fancy outfits, it was so great to see many people come together for a great cause. The organization planned a fundraiser that was out of this world. The room was filled with pioneers and individuals who wanted to see change and decided to act on it. The message of the night was “If everyone does something, no one will have to do anything.” We honestly could not agree more.
Five floors up at Manhattan’s Lexington Hotel is home to one of the most iconic rooms in the city, The Norma Jeanne Suite. The Suite was once home to none other than Marilyn Monroe, while she filmed her legendary role in The Seven Year Itch. The white dress scene that surely comes to mind when thinking about the actress was filmed just a few blocks away. On Thursday, J.c. Penney utilized this incredible piece of pop culture history to unveil their newest collection, The Marilyn Monroe Capsule Collection.
Now available exclusively at JCPenney stores and online, the twelve piece capsule collection ($29 – $120) hilights size inclusivity and is available in sizes XS – 3X and reflects Marilyn’s down to earth, everyday style. In late-May, the collection will expand from apparel into shoes through a partnership with Keds on two exclusive sneaker designs.
Marilyn Monroe for JCPenney is a limited-time only women’s apparel line inspired by the Hollywood icon’s everyday style. The pieces hold a beautiful summery vibe, which represents visions of Marilyns Summers in cape cod, some of the peices sporting beautiful nautical colors, beach florals, and special designs to hilight the beauty of women’s bodies.
“Inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s effortless style and fashion legacy, this exclusive capsule collection provides customers with clothing they’ll feel both comfortable and stylish in,” said Val Harris, JCPenney’s senior vice president of product design, trend and brand management. “Designed for all women who love quality and timeless style, JCPenney is pleased to expand its portfolio with this versatile, affordable collection.”
The collection does a beautiful job of representing the many different sides of Marilyn and her style, and the beauty of summer styles. To celebrate the launch, J.c. Penney invited us to the Norma Jeanne Suite on Thursday to preview this miraculous collection. The morning was complete with breakfast, browsing of the pieces, and even a rooftop balcony bouquet bar where we could pick our own flowers to create a gorgeous arrangement. It was such a beautiful way to celebrate such an exciting launch and collection, and we can’t wait to see just how many people love these looks as much as we do!
