Macy’s Introduces ‘Winter Whites and Jewel Tones’ for Fall/Winter 18 Seasons

by Conrad Byer July 23, 2017
written by Conrad Byer

“More is more” is how a representative from Macy’s gallery showroom explained the collection that will be on the Macy’s sales floor in November.

We have come to a day and age where the common person with a day job does not want to be bothered to go change before going out with their friends after work. Why not innovate work and play wardrobes to optimize time? With the metallic fabrics, jewel inspired colors, “winter white” themes, paired with silver and gold jewelry, your all day outfit will fully cooperate with the daytime and nightlife.

The showroom also displayed Givenchy necklaces and earrings that will make any lady feel pretty, and velvet, jewel embroidered chokers for a chic, edgy vibe. Luxury fashion inspired pieces also took the cake while I was browsing the showroom.

Ankle boot heels that looked very similar to Margiela (without the Margiela price tag!), a silver metallic aviator jacket that could easily be mistaken for Acne Studios and many more pieces stood out, even for men! Also, if you’re looking for holiday sweaters, look no further than your local Macy’s! Playfully coined phrases such as “Snowtorious” and “Straight Outta North Pole” adorned the cheeky Christmas sweaters. Make sure you hit the stores in November when they drop to get your Fall/Winter wardrobe in tact!

On The Scene: HBO Hosts ‘Ballers’ Pop-Up Retail Store

by Staff July 22, 2017
written by Staff

In celebration of the Ballers’ season three premiere, HBO teamed up with designers Buscemi, MadeWorn x ROc96, Pyer Moss, Cazal, and Hall of Fame for a special co-branded capsule collection in West Hollywood,  of course we were there to catch up with the stars of the show to chat about the highly anticipated new season,  the bold fashions, what we can expect from our favorite characters what it takes to be a baller.

We first caught up with Donovan Carter who plays Vernon Littlefield.

What can we expect from Vernon that we that we didn’t see last season?

DC: You can expect him out of a cast. He’s moving around, he’s playing ball again, he’s doing what he loves to do. Him and Reg they’re getting together and  you see them kind of grow as adults as the show goes on and live their lives as professional NFL players and learning from their mistakes that they made previously .

Has their been any style evolution from Vernon that we haven’t seen in the past?

DC: You see him actually in clothes again last season he was in pajamas depressed because he tore his achilles, so you’ll see him out and about this season wearing clothes, wearing two shoes this season, so thats always good. I can’t give too much but he’s linking with a clothing brand early on this season.

LONDON BROWN:

What can we expect from Reggie fashion wise this season?

LB: He’ll still do is his teeshirt, jeans, dunks kind of thing but we do see him in some Blazers, casual suit looks. You’ll catch him cleaned up a little bit this season

How does Reggie’s style differ from London Brown’s style?

LB:Reggie is a lot more flashy in a different way, I like to be put together a lot more sleek or posh but reggie is kind of loud with bright colors, oversized and I like to be cleaned up.

TROY GARITY

What does it take to be a baller?

TG: It takes love and commitment. Because you got to have something to love and commit to it and thats when wealth comes.

OMAR BENSON MILLER

What can viewers expect from Charles this season?

OBM: You know what the tough decisions, he’s got to make progress , he’s got to make a call to as to whether or not he can play in this world of corporate America and its a big deal to find out that this game is as vicious as the NFL is when he’s on the field.

Do you have personal connection with your character Charles Greane?

OBM: Charles seems to struggle because at heart he’s a good guy but the tempations of his life kind of take him the long ways and I can definitely identify with that. So I’m gonna go in there and try not to have too many drinks and be tempted by this wine too much [laughter].

Inspired by the comedic drama’s stylish aesthetic the pop up shop was nothing short of lavish and fun. Featuring footwear and accessories from Buscemi, eyewear by Cazal, Hall of Fame accessories, bomber jackets and shirts by lifestyle brand MadeWorn x ROC96, and oversized sweatshirts and shirts by Pyer Moss. The eclectic sounds of  DJ Virgil Abloh and DJ Wonder harnessed the vibrant energy, allowing each brand to stand out.

Party goers definitely got the BALLER experience.

Season 3 Airs This Sunday at 10 PM ET.

Sleek Make Up Crosses the Pond for ‘The Glow Down’ with Drag Queens & Influencers

by Sibrena Stowe-Geraldino July 21, 2017
written by Sibrena Stowe-Geraldino

When drag queens like Violet Chachki and Youtube influencer Laura Lee endorses Sleek’s new launch, you know you’re poppin’. The UK’s makeup line has finally made its way across the pond with 152 products for the lips, eyes and face; all sold online and is available in stores at select Walgreens and Ulta stores.

It has been a world wind week for Sleek since last week’s launch party where they served cocktails and touch-ups to New York’s top beauty influencers and drag queens. Violet Chachki was the star of the night and raved about the product line and said, “What I love from Sleek is their highlighters. They have two creams and two powders. You put the cream on first and the powder second. It’s like crazy!” Chachki is in love with the campaign and considers makeup as ammunition to face the world. “Using makeup as a tool to face the world and face society and combat any insecurities that you have and realize there’s a part of you that is glamorous and gorgeous and beautiful. Makeup is a tool that helps you get there.”

If the first course was a creative activation entitled, “My Face. My Rules” at lower Manhattan’s Tuck Room, then the main course is a competition called, “The Glow Down,” which launch yesterday. Makeup guru and influencer Laura Lee explains the weekly competition, “The GlowDown is a competition challenging today’s top talent to the ultimate makeup junkie showdown. This competition has no rules, but to follow your own, be bold and push your creativity to the limit.” Each week, participating influencers will curate live videos pinned with a playlist within Sleek MakeUP USA’s YouTube channel. The participants are Violet Chachki and Kristen Leanne, Miss Fame, Sonjdra Deluxe, Peppermint, Nazanin Kavari, Pearl and Bri Hall.

According to the company press release, Sleek has been a trendsetter in the makeup business since 2009 “bringing contouring to the masses to pre- empting the Matte Lip trend back in 2012, Sleek MakeUP has always been one step ahead.” Smart business tactics like this campaign seem genius when using drag queens and beauty influencers to showcase the product! Sleek is sold in over 50 countries worldwide, crossing boundaries while perfecting the makeup line.

On The Scene: Spring 2018 PROJECT x MRKET

by Dalton Taylor July 20, 2017
written by Dalton Taylor

From July 16th through July 18th at the Javits Center New York, Erik Ulin, President of Menswear and Leslie Gallin, President of footwear, present their curative eye in the form of the Project / Mrket to hundreds of prospective buyers from around the world. Project caters to slightly lower price points while focusing heavily on quality and curation, while MRkt showcases tailoring and classics, while featuring it’s own “Made in Italy” booth.

Broken into subsections to ease navigation, PROJECT and MRKT provide buyers a comprehensive and uncluttered way to peruse some of the best brands of the world, ranging in size from smaller luxury brands such as Le Flow and Hook & Albert to well known commercial brands such as 7 for all Mankind and Vince. In order to give each brand a level playing field, Erik decided to limit the frills of each booth to bare necessities. An advocate for truly quality products, he believes a brand and it’s assortment should speak for itself, without the use of fluff and decoration.

Amongst industry veterans, a plethora of small brands congregate in the Vanguards Gallery. Ulin believes that “an important part of supporting the marketplace is to foster the talent of tomorrow” and PROJECT gives newcomers a chance to showcase their work as well. The Vanguards Gallery is built to cater to brands less than two years old, and provide them with an accessible way to enter the marketplace in the form of a trade show without breaking the bank.

In conjunction with Vanguards, PROJECT welcomes the work of four talented graduates from the Parsons Fashion Design program after an intensive selection process. Yuner Shao, Rika Konishi, Alexa Chia, and Qiongxin Kou debuted their bachelors thesis collection inspired by a plethora of cultural and psychological experiences.

Yuner Shao presented a mix of screen printed and digitally printed garments reminiscent of Chinese Propaganda, accompanied by a coloring book and comic book, inviting the viewer to participate in the collection and “create their own” propaganda. Rika Konishi presented a collection inspired by “hidden emotions” and “deeper meaning” using a construction technique that allowed her to complete a garment that’s effect flourished post-wash. Alexa Chia used a highly experimental process to shape vinyl sheets to mimic the textures of denim jackets and jeans. Qiongxin Kou’s brand “Gentle Mind” was inspired by Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddism, to represent harmony, kindness, and zen, respectively.

To bring the opening day to a close, Bagutta and Project hosted a cocktail hour at Americano Hotel on the highlane, with plenty of shade, food, and drinks to beat the heat and prepare for a long week of buying appointments.
