Legendary LA Hot Dog Stand Tail O the Pup Re-opens in West Hollywood

Tail O the Pup re-opened with a bang last week 11 years after it shuttered it’s weiner-themed doors. I attended the legendary hot dog brand’s grand re-opening on a steamy LA day, and boy did I love what I ate.

A throng of hungry journalists and employees of area businesses gathered at tables and sampled delicious dogs ranging from the adventurous Reuben dog to burgers and other adventurous items.

The new menu will include classics such as; The Baseball Special (mustard, relish, onions), The Mexican Ole (chili, parmesan cheese, onions) and The Red Eye (tomato, mustard, relish, onions) as well as brand new recipes which include; The Pastrami Dog (pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, mustard), The Nacho Dog (guacamole, cheddar cheese, Pico de Gallo) and The Italian (red bell peppers, pepperoncini, diced onions, tomato, shredded lettuce, Italian dressing).

I went for the Reuben dog, because I love Reuben sandwiches and decadence. It was easily the best dog I’ve ever had. No hesitation. The kraut blended perfectly with the soft, savory dog, and the Reuben cranked things to 11. So happy, I was.

Next I tried some absolutely flama animal style fries. Sacrilege alert: these were much, much better than those at In-N-Out. I ate one fry and grimaced from sheer joy.

They were coated in that classic animal sauce, but they texture and taste of the fries; salty but not gauche, think but not flimsy, made the experience so much better. I don’t like In-N-Out

This new West Hollywood Tail-o-the-Pup location will not stand alone. There are very exciting plans for a downtown location, walking distance from my apartment. There is a 600 percent chance I will be there at least once a week.
