‘The Legend of Tarzan’ To Help Save Elephants

Producers and filmmakers of ‘The Legend of Tarzan’ team up with Stop Ivory to save Gabon’s forest elephants.

As the premiere date of The Legend of Tarzan approaches, the film’s producers, stars and filmmakers join the non-governmental organization Stop Ivory in its efforts to save the population of one of Africa’s most precious animals. Forest elephants are not only threatened by ivory hunters but also with their total extinction. Stop Ivory for years has been working on preventing the extinction of the wild animal.

The film, depicting beautiful landscapes of Africa, has been shot in Gabon – where English conservationist and documentary filmmaker Josh Ponte has spent the last 15 years working to preserve the country’s wildlife. In the last 30 years, the elephants’ population has been reduced by two thirds due to ivory poaching.

Warner Bros. have decided to join Stop Ivory in its Elephant Protection Initiative and the two parties have been working on creating an entertaining and informational way to engage moviegoers in the initiative. The campaign started with a Public Service Announcement (PSA) appearing in Regal Movies nationwide and will follow with film’s stars Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie featured in an international PSA screened in theaters and broadcast online.

Additionally, the Studio has created a featurette, From Gabon to the Big Screen, which chronicles director David Yates’ journey with Ponte to capture the landscapes of Gabon for the film. This is to bring the audience closer to the majestic animals in desperate need for help.
