This three-day event will feature musicians and artists from Africa and the African diaspora.

Lauryn Hill has collaborated with Tidal X to announce Diaspora Calling!, a three-day music and art series focusing on artists and musicians of the African diaspora. Diaspora Calling! opened today at the historic Kings Theater in Brooklyn, and will remain open through Friday, April 15th. Hill is hosting this event, which will feature visual art and performances by artists from Africa and the African diaspora to highlight their rich culture and work. The lobby of the theater will also be turned into an art gallery of contemporary African art with a special focus on Haitian art and artists. Hill herself curated the gallery with the help of MoCADA (Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts), Nader Haitian Art, and The Haiti Cultural Exchange.

Diaspora Calling! kicked off with a private opening celebration today, but the event will be open to the public on April 14th and 15th from 12 – 4PM. On Friday, Lauryn Hill will be headlining the first inaugural Diaspora Calling! Music Festival. The sold-out event will have performances by Machel Montano (Trinidad), Stephen ‘Ragga’ Marley (Jamaica), Stonebwoy (Ghana), Mr. Eazi (Nigeria), EL (Ghana), Wondaboy (Nigeria), JoJo Abot (Ghana), and Paul Bearbrun (Haiti).

The festival will be livestreamed pre-paywall for fans and Tidal subscribers on Tidal’s website.
