Renee Holiday reaches new heights as she ignites the stage at a rooftop performance located in NYC’s East Village neighborhood at Annie O Music Series.
Atop the posh Standard Hotel lies an intimate venue surrounded by floor length windows. Truly showcasing NYC’s beautiful skyline and the chaotic, bustling streets below. Yet somehow, from the moment R&B singer Renee Holiday took center stage it felt as if the chaos in the streets just below swiftly melted away, as her soulful hymns enveloped the crowd creating an unforgettable vibe.
From her intricate soundscapes to her eclectic melodies, Renee Holiday knows how to take her audience on a musical journey that they wouldn’t want to leave. And with such memorable and relatable songs such as “All” and “Ain’t Got No Love” it’s easy to understand why. But this isn’t anything new for the Seattle native. Since the release of her first EP in 2011 entitled “Scatterbrain,” Renee Holiday rebranded herself under her new moniker and has described the change as a “rebirth.” She continues to make a name for herself, not only as a talented vocalist, but also as a gifted songwriter. Which is evident in projects such as her 2014 EP “Molting,” as well as her debut album “C.O.A.L.S,” released in 2016.

She credits her upbringing for exposing her to the works of Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, and Al Green. Which explains the raw emotion felt in her lyrics and the structure of her silky falsettos throughout her songs. Her magnetic demeanor complimented her set perfectly, causing the crowd to sing and rock along the entire time. Artists such as Renee Holiday excite true R&B lovers, who yearn for the resurgence of organic soul music.
Her performance enticed a nostalgic feeling within a new decade. Hence, her self-declared rebirth proves to be well needed in the R&B genre. It was clear by the response of the crowd that her fans anticipate more releases from the songstress. And as a new fan myself, I’m personally excited to see what 2020 has in store for Renee Holiday.
