Kate Spade Is Back, Brighter Than Ever

Kate Spade is making a major comeback, under the helm of Creative Director Nicola Glass. Bringing new energy, Glass presented a collection bursting with color, life, and most importantly, fun.

The playful and chic silhouettes compliment the collection’s bold attitude, calling to the 60s and 70s for inspiration. Juxtaposing intense hues are soft lavenders and delicate pinks. Florals make a large appearance while keeping the impact minimal yet meaningful.

Statement pieces are leveled out by more modern forms, such as a belted pantsuit and patterned knitwear. To no surprise, accessories elevate the looks, with headscarves playing a major role in the presentation.

The show is the first since the shocking death of founder Kate Spade since her passing in June. In an interview with WWD, Glass says she aims to get back to the heart of the brand, one rooted in bright colors and vibrant patterns, and “define a new modern image for the Kate Spade woman.” She succeeded in this, bringing together a collection that embodies just that. Glass is stepping into the role of Deborah Lloyd, who left in 2017 after 10 years with the brand. While Glass has been in the role since Lloyd’s departure, the Pre Spring 2019 show was her debut collection.

Kate Bosworth, Suki Waterhouse, Gillian Jacobs, Julia Jones, Priyanka Chopra, and Chloe Bridges were all in attendance at the New York Public Library.

The event was sponsored by Fjii water.
