Jordyn Woods is an American plus size model and social phenomenon who recently celebrated her campaign with Lovesick, the newest brand in plus size fashion.

Woods has grown to be a major success due to her Instagram, and her career only grew from there. She then took the opportunity to use her significant platform and extended her reach into the fashion industry. As a plus size model, she entered the field with a vision to change the industry from the inside out, shifting the standards of beauty to promote self-love for all kinds of girls, no matter their shape, size, or color. “You have to love who you are,” she said in an interview at the grand opening of her campaign with Lovesick in West Covina. “Own who you are and your confidence will take you far in life.”

Woods’ goal to promote self-acceptance is not far out of reach, as she has amassed around 1.5 million followers on Instagram. Her accumulated fanbase consists mainly of young girls who look up to her and see that if she can love herself and her body, and build an amazing career in the process, then they can do it, too.

As for her successful career, Woods said that she has been shocked by the rate she has been blowing up, especially in the fashion industry. Because Jordyn Woods is best friends with best friends with the famous Kylie Jenner, as well as the established Smith family, she is no stranger to success. She believes she has learned so much from being around them, most importantly that nothing is handed out, everything requires time and effort, and she must remain “balanced and level headed through it all.”

Interestingly enough, Woods’ very first job was with Lovesick, which also happened to be the company’s first campaign. Everything seems to have come full circle now, with Jordyn as the brand ambassador to the company, which debuted her as a professional model.

The Lovesick executives are pleased to have Woods back, bringing her body positivity and confidence to the team as she promotes their trendy clothes. The pieces include bomber jackets, chokers, feminine lace tops, combat boots, bodysuits, and many more LA-inspired casual clothes for girls ages 15 and up. According to the executives, Lovesick line includes casual and affordable everyday styles that pair perfectly with denim.

The model girl Lovesick aims to style clothes for is in-between the sizes 10 to 26, so she can “show off her curves…and build her confidence,” as it is the most important thing to Lovesick and Jordyn Woods: to help curvy girls radiate confidence and beauty wherever they go.

Chasity Saunders: How has that transition been, from it just being something that you didn’t even really know that you wanted to go into, and now knowing that you’re really cut out to be in this business?

It’s insane, I actually—it’s really not real to me, because everything’s happening so fast. It’s amazing. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I just knew that I wanted to use my platform to do something bigger and inspire people, and this is just what it’s led me to. So, it proves to me that the possibilities are endless.

Chasity Saunders: You talked about your platform. You’ve got 1.4 mil followers, which is incredible. And, whether you want it or not, you’ve got these millions of girls who look up to you and follow you, what do you think about that? Why is that so important now that you have this amazing platform and all these young girls out there who are curvy who see you and say ‘oh my God I could be her, I could do my dream;’ what does that mean to you? How do you feel about having that platform?

Well, right now it’s about redefining the industry and the standards of beauty and the standards of size because now, as it’s growing, as social media is growing, we’re realizing we need a new sense of what’s real. I’m just here to create that; show girls you can do whatever you want to do, be whatever size, color, race, and just own who you are and really your confidence will take you very far in life.

Chasity Saunders: That kind of brings us to where we are right now in Lovesick in West Covina. This is an amazing store; from what I hear, you got your start with this company, so, how did you get that first gig and what was it like on your first day shooting as a plus size model?

Actually, I shot their first campaign, and it was my first job ever.

Chasity Saunders: Wow, so this is your baby.

Yeah, we’ve all grown together and now we’ve grown to a store, which I didn’t know would happen this fast, and all the work we’ve put in has led us here today. But, it kind of just happened organically, I’m young, it’s a young brand, it just fit perfectly. They saw potential in me and saw that I could grow and had the ability to become better and they could grow as well. So, it kind of just happened organically.

Chasity Saunders: I love the clothes here; they’re so young, and they’re fresh. It’s stuff that you would wear in real life around your real friends. I love that the brand is all about loving your body and loving yourself. What would you say to the young girls out there who don’t necessarily have that confidence yet, and they want to step out there and want to be more fashionable, and now you’re a part of this brand; what would you tell them about being confident and loving the skin that they’re in?

You know, you’re only given one body and one vessel, and you have to love who you are because you’re given that body for a specific reason and whatever that reason is, you have to go with it. If you want to change something about yourself, then you can, you can work towards something, but the first step to that is loving who you are, and owning who you are, and once you have your mental right, then you can—it’ll radiate. Everything will radiate. You have to love yourself truly.

Chasity Saunders: Absolutely. And you have friends who you hang out with all the time, you guys are definitely on the cusp of everything. People are watching you for what your wearing, I’m looking at your blue choker like, “I need a blue choker now.” Everything you’re wearing is so in right now. It’s all about trends here, so tell me a little bit about some of your favorite trends going on at Lovesick right now.

Well, I’m really into chokers right now. Bodysuits, always, because you can really pair bodysuits with anything. They have bomber jackets, flannels, graphic tees; all the new trendy things, they have them.

Chasity Saunders: We’re standing in the grunge collection right now, which is so cute, I love it. So, tell me what your favorite color is right now, what are you going for?

Olive, maroon, navy, and baby pink. I know it’s kind of a weird range, but those are my colors right now.

Chasity Saunders: Now I want to talk about your modeling a little bit more before we get out of here, you recently signed with Wilhelmina. Congrats, so what has that transition been like for you, because that’s one of the biggest agencies out there. What has that been like for you?

Thank you. The thing is, I’m the kind of person who doesn’t really hype things up. I don’t really realize the extent of what I’m doing so far. The fact that I’m here today, and about 600 people are RSVP’d to come today, and I’m like—I’m not ready, but I am. But with Wilhelmina, they’re such an awesome agency, they’re the best. My agent, too, and my mother is super supportive.

Chasity Saunders: That’s what I was going to say, for a lot of stars out their, their mom is their momager, helping out with the career; what is that like, keeping it in the family? How is it working with your mom, and I see your sister here today, too—she’s so freaking cute. What is that like?

Well the thing is, when you have a mom as a manager, obviously, your mother is always going to look out for you the best. It’s good to have a team who you know has your best interest at heart, and know that they’re not trying to take anything from you. It’s really the best.

Chasity Saunders: For a lot of people who may have just maybe just meeting you know that you grew up around some really amazing people and not just because they’re famous but because they have great things going on for the like the Kardashians and like the Smiths. What have you learned from some of your friends you grew up with about being an entrepreneur, and whether you know it or not, girl, you’ve got an amazing brand and you’re on your way. What have you learned from your friends that you have grown up with and, now that you have your own personal brand, what can you apply to what you’re doing?

It’s true, I have been around some amazing people my whole life and I feel like I learn something new every day, whether it’s from my own experience or someone else. You really have to work hard for what you want, nothing should be handed to you so, it’s just about putting in the work, putting in the time, and just remaining balanced and level headed through it all—that’s the best advice, really.

I’m just so happy for you! What’s next for Jordyn Woods, where are we going to see you in the next five years? I know you’re just kind of flying by the tail of your seat, but what do you see yourself doing and do you have any big plans that you really want to see in your career that you see happening?

Well, you said five years, but five months ago I didn’t think I would be here today, so, in five years, who knows what could happen? But, we’re just planning on taking over the world, to be honest.
