John Varvatos has just unveiled his new S/S ’18 campaign in collaboration with Nick Jonas, in a move that has set the fashion world on fire. The event was all you’d expect from the famed designer and the man who was once adored for wearing purity rings and causing havoc with his teenage brother on the Disney channel.
The 7 piece capsule collection was designed by both Varvatos & Jonas after the two met in LA and bonded over dinner and tequila. “When we met it was this connect of energy. We looked at each other and just said ‘yes, lets create something together! Soon after we sat down and listened to his new song, and the thought came back. We just knew we had to do something cool”.
This is a big step for Varvatos, as it is the first time collaborating and putting another name on his label other than his own. When asked if it’s the millennial influence or a natural progression John claims it’s all down to good chemistry. “It never really went through my mind to call it a millennium influence, but I guess in a way you’re right. It was just really a strong connect of energy. I love this kid, I love his vintage style, he’s been wearing my brand for years and I just love the way he approaches life”.
Victor Cruz was more than impressed with the duos connection, admitting he was wearing the new fragrance, trusting his palm in my face to smell. “It’s amazing, I’ve always been a big fan of Nick and John. I think it’s dope and I think it makes sense for the brand. It’s both very on point for both of them, and I’m excited, they’re always gonna do good things together”.
Guests toasted the collaboration with signature Hot-tails served at the perfect temperature in Ember Ceramic mugs. In attendance was Victor Cruz, Andre Peijic, Darren Criss, Cassadee Pope, and Afiya Bennett among other celebrities.
When asked about the future of fashion and what the coming year has in store, Varvatos looked at me with a cheeky grin, and simply said “Keep watching, it’s going to be great!”.
