The generational gap in Hip Hop is perfectly displayed in one conversational setting.
Lil Yachty joined Complexโs โEveryday Struggleโ this week to sit with DJ Akademiks, Joe Budden and Nadeska Alexis discuss a handful of topics. They spoke about Yachtyโs new controversial album cover for his upcoming project Teenage Emotions. On the cover, Yachty is seated in a movie theater, surrounded by several social โoutcastsโ โ two gay men, an albino, an overweight girl and some others. Budden asked the 19-year-old rapper who he was trying to reach and Yacthy responded by saying he wanted his fans to be themselves. Yachty says he is promoting self-love and positivity, identifying with being an outcast in the Hip Hop world and in that moment, Joe Budden became agitated and called his claim โbullsh*t.
Yachty made a comment on his happiness and Joe Budden immediately shut him down. Budden goes on to say that no one is happy all the time, telling him that he was โmedia trainedโ. During the interview the Hip Hop veteran kept cutting off the young MC as he was trying to explain where he was coming from. Watch the full episode from Complexโs new talk show below.
Teenage Emotions is set to be released on May 26.
