With his new song, Jidenna isn’t looking to bring anything back, but to move forward with something “fun, funky, refreshing, and all at the same time”. He also spoke about his parents, a Midwestern hippie and a West African revolutionary who instilled in him the motivation to always be excellent and be extraordinary. The inspiration for his new classy look comes from his father who also had a beard, wore a three piece suit, and carried a cane. His father’s recent passing is what signaled Jidenna’s sharp turn to suits. Jidenna also said Taylor Swift’s turn from country to pop really inspired him and is also a big fan of the brave change. Continuing on his thoughts on contemporary music, he said “fake is the new real” adding “our emotional depth is pretty shallow”.
