The Knockturnal recently had the opportunity to speak with Jennifer Connelly, Jay Ellis, and the cast about all things “Top Gun: Maverick.”
The sequel takes place more than thirty years after the events of the first film, as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell continues to push the envelope as a courageous test pilot. Maverick encounters Miles Teller’s Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, call sign: “Rooster” — the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw aka “Goose.”
On May 26, fans will get the chance to watch as Maverick both faces an uncertain future and confronts the ghosts of his past when the film premieres in theaters, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX. Maverick will be drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.
Jay Ellis and Jennifer Connelly attended a special screening for the film at the AMC Magic Johnson in New York on May 23.
“I got a chance to step into Top Gun, which is this legacy that has been 36 years in the making,” Ellis said. “I got a chance to work with Tom and try a whole new skillset that I hadn’t got to use before… it’s amazing to be on this ride.”
“I think it’s a very celebratory film,” Connelly shared. “I think it’s a really fun, action-packed, blockbuster movie that I think is very immersive, but I think it also has a lot of heart.”
The film stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis with Ed Harris and Val Kilmer.
