Ahead of the premiere of the third season of Apple TV series Shrinking, I spoke to co-creator, executive producer, and star Jason Segel for an exclusive junket conversation.

With dozens of award nominations under its belt and an extremely passionate fanbase, Shrinking follows the story of therapist Jimmy Laird and his process of putting his life back together after tragically losing his wife (Lilan Bowden) in a car accident while navigating fatherhood and the patients who rely on him. Luckily, he is able to do this with an amazing village of friends around him including his boss and mentor Dr. Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford).

This season, we see Jimmy facing a new life milestone of his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) leaving for college and trying to reenter the dating scene (with a very exciting guest appearance from Segel’s How I Met Your Mother costar Cobie Smulders) for the first time since losing his wife. “The entire framework of the life that he had planned was taken away from him,” said Segel. “He’s asking himself ‘Did the best part of my life happen already and now I just endure the rest of it?’ and it’s a really interesting question to explore this season.”

The 11-episode third season of Shrinking will debut globally with a one-hour premiere episode on Wednesday, January 28, on Apple TV, followed by one episode weekly until April 8, 2026.
