Last night in NYC, the Jam Master Jay Foundation hosted an event called “The Hip Hop Lip Sync Battle”. There were appearances made by Angela Simmons, DJ Whookid, DJ Enuff and ASAP Ferg. Club Subrosa was the place to be last night in NYC. The Jam Master Jay Foundation was able to put together a great event on behalf of the late and great Run DMC DJ Jam Master Jay. The purpose of the event was to help raise awareness and try to push the envelop for schools to continue their music programs for students. It was a great way to bring attention to the subject, given Jam Master Jay and of course the legendary crew he was teamed with changed and shifted the culture of hip hop and music.
As you entered inside the venue there was a great 90’s era photo booth. All of the attendees were given Kangol hats, dookie gold ropes and shades with no lenses as they took their pictures in their best 90’s pose. There were great appetizers being served like mini burger sliders and they even had a special whiskey drink that they managed to whip up in honor of the event.
Throughout the course of the night, guests entertained the crowd as they got up on stage and lip synced old 90’s tunes like “Vivrant Thing” by Q-Tip and “All I Need” by Method Man and Mary J. Blige. There was even a great performance by a film and media crew as they lip synced “Drunk In Love” by Beyonce and Jay Z. DJ Enuff was gracious enough to bless the stage with a set full of today’s top charted hits but with him being a well known DJ from the 90’s, it was only right that he played music that was based on the theme of the event.
