Atlantic recording artist Jake Troth, is a singer and songwriter from Davidson North Carolina. For as long as he can remember, he has always been drawn to expressing himself creatively.
“I’ve always been an artist, I was always doing things as a kid weather it was drawing or singing. It wasn’t until I moved to San Francisco after high school and lived in West Oakland with a bunch of other artist that I realized being an artist could also be a job. I was about 18 when I realized it was possible to be a songwriter or be a creative professional.”
Troth’s new album “It Is As If” is crafted around the message of connecting with others on a more intimate level. Troth expressed that he wanted his album to connect to people, having the album as stripped down as possible, just him and his guitar.
He describes his music as being “A bit nostalgic, hand made, luscious, it has an extra dimension to it.”
“These songs are meant to be with you when you’re feeling lonely or alone, at the times at your day when you find yourself having the world yourself. This record is meant to be with people in those times of the day.” Songs like “Open Door” and “Alive & Well” are examples of Troth’s acoustic intimacy.
Troth is currently on tour, this is the first time he says he is really connecting to the songs on the album. “This is the first time I’m bringing these songs out and performing them with the same feelings I have when I wrote them. Just me and the guitar.”
Troth revealed there were some challenges to making the album, he struggled with focusing on a long term project but patience is the key he said. “Patience is the big thing, I write songs all the time so working on one particular project for an extended period of time is not the way I have normally done things.”
“I came up in open mic nights, writing songs in a day and performing it that night so to write a song and have it come out 3,5,7 years later, that was a test for me. I love all of these songs on the record and some of them are 5-6 years old at this point so it was challenging to keep these affinity for them.”
“All the challenges were just challenges at the time but now it’s all good.”
