On September 6th, Lenovo unveiled twentynine, curated by HypeArt at the Fridman Gallery in New York City, a striking new commission by artist Maya Man and designer Isabella Lalonde. Presented in partnership with Intel through Lenovo’s Make Space program, the reception brought together art, technology, and culture under one roof.
Building on the duo’s earlier AI-aided zine, twentynine explores how AI technology reshapes creative expression. A model trained on their own imagery reinterprets the aesthetics of fashion and beauty advertising, bringing forth work that works that is both recognizable and futuristic. The collection of prints created exclusively for this exhibition challenged guests to question the evolving balance between human authorship and technological advancement.
The experience went beyond the artwork itself. Guests were welcomed into a fully immersive environment featuring a dynamic DJ set by Mona Matsuoka and curated bites from @ninetynin.e, each designed to echo the exhibition’s themes of experimentation and transformation. Together, the music, flavors, and visuals created an atmosphere as engaging as the art itself, drawing attendees into the world of twentynine.
The evening also featured a HypeArt-moderated Q&A. Maya and Isabella shared insights into the methodology behind twentynine, discussing the inspiration, the creative process, and their collaboration with AI technology. They explored how AI is reshaping not only art, but broader cultural elements from identity and fashion to everyday aesthetics.
