The pilot for the new Hulu series, How to Die Alone, mixes a world of humor, love, friendship, and figuring out how to overcome life’s uncertainties.

The show written by Natasha Rothwell, who also plays the main character, “Melissa”, creates a captivating series consisting of a broke JFK airport worker figuring out her life after a near death accident.

Through Melissa’s complicated love life with her boss, “Alex”, to conflicts with her best friend and brother, the series will keep you on your toes while providing some laughs along the way.

Rory, played by Conrad Ricamora, is Melissa’s best friend and right hand man. Conrad reflects on his time playing Rory as, “seamless and easy,” portraying best friends with Natasha, as they have natural chemistry.

“You can create chemistry on screen, but it’s much easier when you just have it naturally,” Ricamora said.

The show brings many real world situations to life. Showcasing a diverse cast, with experiences the actors can relate to. Ricamora sees himself in his character, Rory, from times in his early 20s. He says he was, “searching for something and some direction in [his life],” just how Rory and Melissa were during the duration of the show.

Jocko Sims who plays Melissa’s main love interest, “Alex”, hopes after the viewers watch this series, that they will give themselves the opportunities, “to be seen, to be heard and let yourself fly.”

The show is full of hidden themes for the viewers including self-worth and independence.

How to Die Alone premieres its first four episodes on Hulu on Friday, September 13.
