“How It Was” to See KINO Live: From Heartbeats to Headbangs

When you ask 'How It Was' to see KINO live – the answer is simply put as “incredible."

After 5 years, his promise was fulfilled. KINO, the Korean solo singer-songwriter, producer and composer, hit the stage at Los Globos in Los Angeles to a roaring crowd of supporters.

Whether fans have followed him for over 9 years from his work in K-pop boy group PENTAGON, his journey as a soloist and label maker under NAKED, or both – this audience was in for an intense and deeply emotional show.

The tour’s title, “I think I think too much,” channels complex emotions through his music. In our past interview with KINO, he shared how the name was intentionally chosen to spread the message of embracing vulnerability through his music and performances – a theme he carried throughout the entire show.

The concert itself was a performance piece that began with the sound of heartbeats as KINO walked onto the stage. It opened with echoes from previous tours and interviews, setting an intense tone that reflected the pressures of life under the spotlight.

His raw vocals in songs like “Broke My Heart” and “Everglow” were beautifully illuminated by PENTAGON lightsticks, while the live band delivered an electrifying performance all night. The rock-infused, high-energy vibe of the opening songs paired with the live band was unlike anything I’d experienced at a solo concert before.

Between songs, KINO chatted with the audience, confidently declaring that he knew LA would be the best show. He prepared heartfelt speeches in English, showing his dedication to connecting on a deeper level with his international fans.

KINO set out to create a genuine artist-to-fan connection on this tour – and he did just that with his raw and passionate performances. As he sang “Call My Name,” the crowd chanted his name back, their energy matching the intensity on stage.

Reflecting on the night, KINO said, “After the first song, your energy made me crazy,” acknowledging how incredible it was to fulfill his promise of returning to LA after 5 years. He also took a moment to express his empathy for the tragic LA wildfires, showing his deep connection to the city.

“I felt that… it’s going to be the best show ever,” he shared between tracks like “Cerberus” and “Valentine,” which were part of the “relaxation and anxiety” segment of the setlist. He encouraged fans to take a breath, offering his music as a form of stress relief. The next segment brought even more energy with on-stage solo choreography for “Tell Me What You Want” and “Skyfall.”

After a brief break, KINO performed “Skyfall” and “Do I Deserve It,” creating an emotional and lyrically powerful moment. He revealed that “Skyfall,” his first-ever ballad, holds a special place in his heart – a truly beautiful piece.

The nostalgia continued with throwbacks to his PENTAGON days, performing “Nostalgia” and “Sparkling Night,” which brought back memories of the group’s earlier days. The audience, especially long-time fans, felt the emotional weight of hearing these tracks live once again.

KINO kept the energy high with “Solo” and “Freaky Love,” even bringing a fan of 9 years on stage for a dance battle (which the fan won!). He jokingly promised that he’d win the next time he’s in LA – and we can’t wait to see that rematch!

As KINO announced, “The show is coming to an end…,” the audience erupted in chaos. No one wanted it to be over!

He encouraged fans to sing along and share in his joy with tracks like “How It Was,” “Dancing on the Road,” and “Fashion Style,” all followed by an epic guitar solo (where I got absolutely drenched during a water bottle splash – iconic).

The show concluded with an emotional encore of “Shine” and “Spring Snow” (PENTAGON classics) and an unreleased track, “Back in Time,” which offered a mellow and reflective end to an incredibly intentional performance.

KINO left the stage with heartfelt words: “I love you LA. So much,” and “California, you guys are so fucking beautiful. I love you so much.” He thanked his entire crew, showing his humble and appreciative nature. “I think I think too much” showcased KINO as an artist in his own right, revealing how his past has shaped who he is today – and how grateful he is for the support that continues to follow him.

If you get the chance to see KINO live, take it! We can’t wait for the next time.
