Each year, the Obie Awards recognize persons and productions worthy of distinction in each theatre season focusing on Off-Broadway movement.
Presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice the 63rd annual Obie Awards were announced on May 21st. Rajiv Joseph’s Describe the Night, produced by Atlantic Theater Company, received the Obie Award for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Legendary Tony Award®-nominated and three-time Obie Award-winning actress Kathleen Chalfant received a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement. Emmy and Obie-winning actor John Leguizamo hosted this year’s ceremony, which was held at Terminal 5 (610 West 56th Street).
