Heelys Teams Up With The Harlem Globetrotters For Special Shoe Release

Now, this may trigger feelings of nostalgia or come as a shock to some. If you’re a 90’s baby like me, then you should already be familiar with Heelys; however, if you’re not then let me explain.

Heelys became a really big thing in the late 2000’s. Literally, every kid had a pair of these sneakers with built in wheels. Before there were Hoverboards, there were Heelys. As a matter of fact, Heelys walked so Hoverboards could run (no pun intended).

People always say that history repeats itself. Nearly every trend of today is reminiscent of a trend from the past, whether it be fashion, music or even hair. So, it’s no surprise that some of our favorite things from our beloved childhood days are making a comeback.

Heelys recently collaborated with The Harlem Globetrotters on a special edition shoe! The sneaker brand hosted an exclusive early preview of the collab at The Moxy Hotel in Downtown Manhattan.

Kids of all ages came out to eat, dance, drink (soda, of course) and play some fun games with Harlem Globetrotter players Bull and Speedy. The Harlem Globetrotters are a basketball team but they aren’t your typical basketball team. Mixing basketball with comedy, games and stunts, they do an amazing job at keeping their audience entertained.

The new high-top shoe is covered in red and blue to represent The Harlem Globetrotters signature colors, with a red wheel embedded in to the sole to cater to all your roller skating needs.

The collab officially drops Friday, November 29th on the Heelys website.
