HBOMax’s Superintelligence virtually premiered last night on Thursday, November 20th, preceding an exciting Q&A with the cast and crew.
When an intense version of artificial intelligence known as “superintelligence” decides that humanity is unfit to continue its existence, it targets Carol, played by Melissa McCarthy, to save the world and prove that people are worth saving.
The comedic action film premiered smashingly last night following a loving message from stars of the film Melissa McCarthy and director Ben Falcone. The married couple hilariously introduced the HBOMax flick and shared their gratitude towards all those involved in making the film.
The celebrate the event guests were sent an awesome box full of goodies featuring a voice message from Melissa welcoming us to the premiere. We snacked on Cameron Catering spiced pita crisps, big spark spicy snack mix, Compte De Monts-Jura cheese, a cookie with the Seattle skyline, Fran’s Gray and Smoked Salt Caramels in dark and milk chocolate, Fremont Mischief distillery + Ambrosio Tequila margaritas all sourced from the Seattle / Washington area. We also got an amazing “Notorious R.B.G.” t-shirt, blue light protecting glasses, a pen, a mask that read “People Are Worth Saving,” a Lamzac inflatable chair, a cap with a pink bear on it and more!
Even though the movie was filmed two years ago, Melissa McCarthy feels as though it’s premiering perfectly on schedule.
Superintelligence also stars Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, Jean Smart, Brian Tyree Henry, Sarah Baker, Sam Richardson, and more. Cannavale, Smart, McCarthy, Falcone, and writer Steve Mallory appeared at the Q&A session that took place after the film’s premiere.
Jean Smart logged onto the camera from her home as did Steve Mallory. However, Cannavale, McCarthy, and Falcone emerged hysterically on screen together, all dressed in identical outfits and smushed together shoulder-to-shoulder.
Amid the Q&A, a viewer asked what type of pranks occurred behind-the-scenes while filming the comedy. As the cast pondered the answer to this question, Steve Mallory responded reliantly reminding his peers of “Barry Peterson Day.”
His fellow cast-mates immediately agreed reminiscently. Melissa recounted how cinematographer Barry Peterson wore the exact same outfit, every day, to set. He wore a white shirt with jeans every single day because he didn’t want his mind to be able to think about anything or anyone else. He wanted to be a blank canvas, so to speak. And so, one day, all of the cast and crew arrived at work wearing a white shirt and jeans to playfully poke fun at Peterson.
Later on, The Knockturnal asked: “Bobby, you and Melissa have been in two movies together now and you have fantastic chemistry, how would you describe your friendship off-screen?” Cannavale jokingly answered with, “you know you’re in good hands and that they’re going to take care of you. And, we have a lot of sex the night before we shoot. We’re friends, she answers my texts.” His priceless response was followed by Melissa comically alarming the group that her husband is sitting right next to her who was cracking up himself.
Superintelligence beautifully supports #20daysofkindness which is a charity widely supported by Melissa McCarthy and targets a different charity every single day. Their slogan reads, “Supporting 20 charities over 20 days with a $20,000 donation to each.”
When asked where the idea to start this charity came from, she said “2020 was tricky, let’s do something good in the spirit of how kind this movie is. That’s why we wanted to do the movie. This movie leads with kindness matters, love wins, and people are worth saving. So, we thought, let’s follow through. And so, we started 20 days of kindness. I think we’ve raised like 1.5/1.6 million so far for 20 different charities. And it’s such a nice reminder every day when we look at it and check in with our different charities, there are so many people, even in these crazy times, that their whole purpose is how do I help, how do we be in service of people.”
Superintelligence officially premieres on HBOMax this Thursday, on November 26th.
