Growing up in Los Angeles came with a ton of benefits, from going to the beach everyday after school to walking the streets of Rodeo Drive. There’s so much complexity in LA, so much of the best of everything. On Thursday night, the highlight came from a really funny Chicago-born comedian who now calls Los Angeles home. His name is Lil Rel Howery and you might know him from movies like Get Out and Uncle Drew.
Over the past few years his career has skyrocketed and he felt it was time to let the world know who he truly is. Like all the top comedians he admired, he felt an HBO stand up comedy special directed by Jerrod Carmichael would be the best way to tell his story.
In celebration of the premiere of, Lil Rel: Live in Crenshaw, HBO hosted an exclusive screening of the comedy special in Los Angeles at Neuehouse with more than 200 friends, family, and notable supporters.
The night consisted of laughs and good vibes!
After the screening, there was a Q&A with Lil Rel moderated by Terrence J. During the interview, Lil Rel shared how important it was to film his new material in the heart of a predominantly African American neighborhood like Crenshaw.
Tina Knowles, Donovan Carter, Nika King, were all in attendance vibing out to sounds by Chicago’s own DJ Sean Mac.
All in all, Live in Crenshaw was hilarious and highlighted a bunch of universal truths with the most important one being: everyone loves someone who is authentically just being themselves.
Thanks Lil Rel.
Be sure to catch the Lil Rel: Live in Crenshaw streaming now on HBO.
