HBO hosted an LA barbershop event to promote their new series in collaboration with LeBron James and Maverick Carter: The Shop!
On Saturday, HBO hosted a one-of-a-kind barbershop experience to promote the premiere of its new series The Shop; the collaborative show between HBO Sports and LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s digital media company Uninterrupted.
The event, hosted at Grey Matter barbershop in LA featured activist and entrepreneur Karim Webb who held three workshops with members of the LA non-profit the Brotherhood Crusade during the day. The young men ages 13-24 were able to get haircuts and take part in meaningful conversations from self-care and life skills to topics like “Is Kanye canceled?”, “What are their opinions of NFL players taking a knee?”, and “How can they encourage their counterparts who are a part of gang activity or not on the right path to join the Brotherhood Crusade and start anew?”
During the night portion of the event, the barbershop became a VIP space with over 80 guests in attendance. Guests enjoyed custom cocktails, haircuts, and small bites from Sweet Chick, all while live music sets were performed by DJ M.O.S. Rodney Rikai hosted a panel with NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin, Blavity Editor-in-Chief Lilly Workneh and former NFL Wide Receiver/Director of Business Development at Uninterrupted Andrew Hawkins.
