Grey Goose knows how to throw a party. The eponymous liquor company hosted a swank shindig at the Redbury Hotel on Wednesday in Hollywood. I’ve always wanted to kick it in that hotel, so red and imposing. The party was fun.
I slapped on my drinking wristband and started small-talking. Actually I started texting. Then I was invited to chat by Felix, the uber-charming founder of Lookbook L.A. He made great off-color jokes throughout the night, and broke down the mad science of social media likes.
I ate many meats from many skewers, but very soon the main event was upon me.
David Kaplan, a LA/NYC bar magnate and expert mixologist, taught attendees how to make the perfect Summer drinks. We timidly huddled around tables covered in bottles of Grey Goose vodka and fresh plants. We were ready to get drunk.
I tend to stick to Grey Goose’s flagship flavor, but the offerings at the soiree made me decide to switch it up for future forays. My favorite was L’Orange, which I was initially terrified of. I had a weird night in Richmond, Virginia once with a drink called Orange Crush.
Grey Goose’s not-too-tart and smooth as hell take on orange-flavored vodka was perfect for another sticky L.A. night. I mixed it with Perrier and basil, which I was advised not to do. It was delicious, and I was right.
I made sure to try each flavor, and though La Poire (Pear) was a bit adventurous for my palate, I’ll probably enthusiastically drink it in the future.
At this point I’d like to give a major shout out to Rebecca, the Bacardi event representative who helped put this day together. Everything was opulent and perfectly presented. She was also a riot, and at many turns stopped me from “devolving” into a texting zombie.
The night was bisected by a performance from Capitol Records band Parade of Lights. They played a stripped-down set including “We’re the Kids” and “Golden,” and though they made sure to remind us they usually play loud and hard, I preferred them in this context. Their lead singer has a Chris Martin-without-the-indulgence kind of voice.
We all got drunk. I made friends like one does at Summer camp, each of us promising to keep in touch. Or at least to like each other’s Instagram pictures periodically.
