The Knockturnal sat down with Gerard Butler and Alexis Louder ahead of the release of their new thriller Copshop.
Butler plays assassin Bobby Viddick in this film whose locked up by Louder’s character Officer Valerie Young.
“I actually had this project for a long time, I was just looking for the right time to make it,” Butler said. “It was in the middle of Covid and seemed to fit the bill for a movie that could be made during Covid in this contained set. So I said let’s do it.”
“Every now and then you want to make a movie that’s just fun, outrageous, violent, intense and irreverent and it was a different character for me to play – this kind of cold-blooded, ruthless killer who has a big personality, to say the least,” he added.
In a movie where it’s hard to know who the good and bad guys are, Louder’s character is the clear hero.
Louder said, “Valerie – it was wonderful to step into her shoes. She has an insatiable thirst for justice, and so when these guys come in – Gerard Butler as Viddick and Frank Grillo as Murretto – and they just create mayhem, she has to figure out a way to restore justice and law and order amidst all this chaos.
“I love the fact that even if she’s scared or nervous or doesn’t know what to do next, she’s calm in the storm and trying to get a solution to her problem.”
There was a surprise guest at the end of the interview – Gerard Butler’s dog!
Butler had a great sense of humor. “What are you doing up during the day? You’re The Knockturnal?” Butler joked.
“Get some sleep! It’s daytime!” he said at the end of the interview.
Copshop hits theaters Friday, September 17.
