FKA Twigs Delivers On Vulnerability

FKA twigs starts 2016 with the release of “Good To Love”

After releasing one of the best EPs of last year, FKA twigs shows little signs of slowing down. Released last month, “Good To Love” evokes many themes already present in her discography. Yet what separates this single from her earlier songs is its straightforwardness with the lyrics, specifically the hook.

Candidly proclaiming, “It’s good to love. It’s good to love. It’s good to love,” FKA twigs offers a new dimension of vulnerability that acknowledges the satisfaction of a vital emotion. She delves even further into her vulnerability by acknowledging the reality of expressing love for somebody else: “But when you give yourself away, it always hurts too much.” Not only does she imply past heartbreaks, she also reminds her listeners that falling in love is as painful as it is satisfying. The real crux of the hook is when she sings, “Make my body come alive. I’ve got a right to hurt inside. So will you hold me while I cry and let me lay against your side?” This is at the point where she turns the love towards herself; she wants to get close to her partner but she also keeps in mind her own desires and autonomy. Along with releasing the music video of a nude choreography piece in bed, FKA twigs shows a level of bravery and openness that no other artist is showing right now.

FKA twigs was already captivating with her unique music videos and her revealing lyrics. As she grows as an artist though, other artists should take notes and start showing vulnerability in their music.
