First Trailer For Charlie Kaufman’s ‘Anomalisa’ Has Been Released

With his first film since Synecdoche, New York, Charlie Kaufman jumps into the world of stop motion to create what looks to be his best piece of work yet.

Charlie Kaufman has always been one of the most innovative and interesting minds in cinema. His films have always been able to focus on humanity, people, a question of identity, the meaning of life…basically just the idea of life in general when it all comes down to it. While he’s pretty well known name for a screenwriter, there are still a lot of people who would only know him from his work more than anything else. Kaufman’s resume consists of extraordinary films such as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Synecdoche, New York (which he also directed).

And now, seven years later, Kaufman is back and looks to have created his masterpiece…without actually using a single human being. Anomalisa sees Kaufman and his co-director, Duke Johnson, jump into the world of stop-motion animation while showing some of the most human characters on the big screen. The first trailer really doesn’t show much of anything, but it’s perfect for the type of mood and emotion Kaufman is trying to get out of his audience. Anomalisa will be one of the must see films of the year for all audiences and I really cannot wait until December for this movie to hit theaters.

Anomalisa is directed by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson, written by Kaufman, and starring David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Tom Noonan. Anomalisa will be in theaters December 30, 2015.

Michael Stone, husband, father and respected author of “How May I Help You Help Them?” is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he’s scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa, who may or may not be the love of his life. A beautifully tender and absurdly humorous dreamscape, from the brilliant minds of Charlie Kaufman (SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK) and Duke Johnson (“Community” episode, Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas), this stop-motion animation wonder features the vocal cast of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan and David Thewlis and a stirring strings-based score by Carter Burwell.
