Celebrating a great cause
Last Wednesday, the FilmAid ‘Power of Film’ benefit was hosted at the beautiful The Standard. The venue overlooks the New York City landmark, The High Line, and is the perfect place to celebrate this amazing organization and all that they do to promote films around the world. This cocktail party celebrates FilmAid’s 20th anniversary. Along with this amazing anniversary, CEO David Linde was honored with the Richard C Holbrooke Memorial Award for Dedication to Humanitarian Service. And to present David with this prestigious award was none other than actress and activist, Katie Holmes. This event also launches the newest phase of FilmAid which is called Internews, a non-profit dedicated to expanding freedom of expression across the world.
Their goal is to provide people across the globe, especially in marginalized and impoverished areas, a chance to create and share films. Their view is that films not only present an outlet to express creativity and to share information, but also allows for an outlet of distraction. People also in attendance were Caroline Baron (FilmAid Founder and producer), Jeanne Bourgault (Internews President & CEO), Cristiana Falcone Sorrell (Internews Board Member and Chief Executive Officer, JMCMRJ Foundation), Melissa Fleming (United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications), Meher Tatna (HFPA Chairman of the Board of Directors), Tim Blake Nelson, Sarita Choudhury, Jim Taylor, Avy Kaufman, Alan Taylor, Kati Marton, and Fred Berner.
