Fender celebrated its new line of acoustic guitars Tuesday night at Milk Studios in Manhattan, with special performances from DJ Blu Detiger and indie pop band MisterWives.
The event space featured Fender’s new California line in all the available colors, ranging from olive green to teal to pink, in both matte and shiny finishes. Guests were able to try out the new line with mini amps connected to Beats headphones. Fender also debuted its new app, Fender Play, which makes it easy for any guitar players, from beginner to expert, to learn how to play their favorite songs.
The California series features stage-ready electronics, specially designed with Fishman, and a bold style that can be either acoustic or electric. The bodies are available in three shapes: the Redondo, the Newporter, and the Malibu.
DJ Blu Detiger kicked off the night with a medley of throwbacks while guests mingled around the new guitars. A current music business student at NYU, and bassist for the band Kitten, Blu started off her DJ career young, enjoying her parents’ vintage turntables. Her uniqueness comes from her bass riffs during her DJ sets – and from her impeccable style. Blu has been performing since she was 7. Her inspirations are evident in her sets: she frequents classics like Prince and Blondie.
The MisterWives made up of Mandy Lee (lead singer), Etienne Bowler (percussion), William Hehir (bass), Marc Gambell (guitar), Jesse Blum (multi-instrumentalist), and Jesse Blum (saxophone), brought bright hits to the mini-stage. The acoustic band just finished their Connect the Dots tour. Popular band Thirty Seconds to Mars recently announced a massive summer tour, which will feature MisterWives, Walk the Moon, and Joywave. Next month, the MisterWives are heading to the United Kingdom before coming back to the States. Their albums can be streamed on any site.
