Out east you can find it all – sand, sun, and now the most magical music beats.
Hotspot Calissa has always been known since its incarnation as the birthplace of scrumptious dishes and elegant affairs. But in summer of 2021, they also took on the title of entertainment haven. The restaurant is making waves and bringing out some of the most legendary performers in modern history. From rap artists to DJs to Broadway stars, there is simply no better roaster of prolific acts to ignite the senses.
This past weekend Questlove took on the challenge and brought forth a night of epic proportions. The likes of Cristina Cuomo, Melissa Wood, and Noah Tepperberg gathered under the cool breezes of the patio at Calissa for incredible food and the enthralling mixes of Questlove. Hot off the trail of the premiere of his documentary “Summer of Soul,” the artist created another seasonal moment for the memory books. It’s part musical genius on his behalf to always bring fantastic energy to the crowd, but also part sweetness of a place like Calissa.
There is truly no better place to spend the summer and to reconnect with the power of the audience. You sit and you delight in gorgeous food and beautiful atmosphere. This past season the restaurant has highlighted an array of talent at special sessions for Broadway Out East Thursdays, Calissa Sounds on Friday, and a mix of DJs and live music on Saturdays and Sundays. The likes of Wyclef Jean, Bob Moses, and Capital Cities have made the vibe noteworthy.
Such performers slated for future performances include DJ sets by Rev Run and DJ Ruckus on August 20; DJ Cassidy on August 27; and St. Lucia and Rac on September 9. And, for those looking to feel the love of Broadway before the curtain rises again in the Big Apple in September, Calissa offers the best of the stage in Water Mill. Superstars Orfeh and Andy Karl will hit the scene on August 19 followed by Joshua Henry on August 26. Then none other than award-winning Tituss Burgess will belt out tunes fresh off the premiere of “Respect.”
