Brooklyn got a bit more millennial Monday night.
The cast of TV Land’s Younger came out in full force to celebrate season 5 of their comedy series. The season premiere party went down at the Italian restaurant Cecconi’s in Dumbo on the eve of season 5’s debut. The show stars Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, and Molly Bernard, who were all on hand to give the inside scoop on their dream co-stars and what viewers can expect this coming season!
The Knockturnal: Who would be your dream actor if you could have anyone who could come and join your cast at Millenial?
Hilary Duff: I secretly would always love Sarah Jessica Parker because of the Sex and the City, the Darren [Star] thing, just for something quick!
Sutton Foster: That would be so cool! All of my favorites are like Jennifer Garner, Lauren Graham. If they could somehow show up on set that’d be a dream come true!
The Knockturnal: What’s been your favorite on-set memory over the past four years working on this incredible show.
Debi Mazar: “You know some of my greatest memories are us sitting in our chairs off the set, where we’re all on and doing our job, and then at one point or another one of us will break down and get real, and talk about what’s really going on in their lives. Those kinds of things I like because we all come to work and we’re professionals, and we smile through it, we do our job, but in real life, we all have our own real stuff going on. We have children, romances, shit going on. It’s that moment in the chair where we’re like, ‘Girl,’ and then the tears can flow, conversation can start, the advice comes in, the hugs come in. Those are the moments I really love, where we’re not like girlfriends that call each other on a regular basis, we’re fellow thespians that are together to work, but it’s a very safe place and we’re there to support each other.”
The Knockturnal: Will we see your character enter any sort of serious relationship this season?
Mazar: This season my character revisits something that she had before. It’s different for her and I think Maggie is sort of struggling with it. I think Maggie has issues with being in a real relationship, committing. Also this season Maggie has really great success in her art life and that’s kind of cool!
The Knockturnal: This past weekend I got to attend my first bat mitzvah, so I wanted to know since your character had a ‘hot mitzvah’ what would your dream hot mitzvah look like?
Molly Bernard: Oh my dream hot mitzvah would have bubbles balloons, dogs (many of them!) Allergy pills so that people can attend the hot mitzvah and if they’re allergic they can take some allergy pills. Mary would include vodka, tequila, rum, I said dogs, bubble, balloons, and maybe nail polish. And RuPaul’s Drag Race would be playing constantly! On another screen, Harry Potter would be playing.
The Knockturnal: What are your favorite watches besides Younger?
Bernard: Atlanta, RuPaul’s Drag Race. I just watched Wild Wild Country on Netflix, so good. And I love Broad City!
The Knockturnal: Another great New York show! Do you love being here and filming?
Bernard: Yeah yeah yeah!
The Knockturnal: So it’s been four years now that you guys have been filming, where have you seen your character grow the most?
Bernard: It’s interesting, Lauren has grown the most in regards of, I think over the seasons to be more serious. That growth has been really clear and so fun to play. That she’s just strong and fierce. We know that with her charisma and kind of quirky craziness but I think seriousness has been nice for me and therefore the fans and the writers love it. There’s a really sweet scene this season with Josh and Lauren, where it’s just us we’re talking, and Lauren’s outrageousness falls away for a minute and they have such a heartfelt, sweet time together. I watched that scene the other day and I was like ‘Man that’s good.’
The Knockturnal: Do you like to watch the show back?
Bernard: We have to for press so we can talk about it, but I get a little uncomfortable watching it! Sometimes it’s like ‘Oh I was actually kinda good!’ and other times I’m like ‘Oh, man.’
What are are you looking forward to this season?
Bernard: I’m really excited for, there are so many wild plot twist and turns, we’re really on a journey this season. It’s gonna be really fun for the fanbase to watch, it was fun to do so they’re gonna love it!
