With the Covid-19 pandemic and stay home orders it became difficult for many people to be creative and transition into life in quarantine.
However, for actress Emma Norton her time inside and the rise of the TikTok app motivated her to tap into her creativity and create content on the app. She has now built a following of over five million on TikTok and currently has about 147.8 million likes on the social media app. The Knockturnal sat down with the actress to discuss her creativity process, TikTok, and more.
The Knockturnal: You have built a large following on TikTok. What sparked your interest with Tik Tok?
Emma Norton: A friend encouraged me to post a video on TikTok around the beginning of 2020. When COVID-19 hit, and everything was shutting down. I needed a creative outlet. TikTok ended up serving that purpose well.
The Knockturnal: What is your inspiration for your content?
Emma Norton: I gain a lot of inspiration from stories and characters I’ve been exposed to during my life from books, films, television shows, music, and life experiences. I’d say my imagination usually drives my content. I try to be as creative and original as possible.
The Knockturnal: What has been your favorite part of being an influencer and digital creator?
Emma Norton: It’s the creative community I’ve been exposed to and have become friends with, and how incredible it is to communicate with followers from around the world. I’m also enjoying using my platform to support causes that are important to me.
The Knockturnal: What was your initial reaction to going viral?
Emma Norton: It was my 3rd TikTok post that went viral. I’ve always loved Margot Robbie as an actor. I decided to put my spin on the Harley Quinn character. I have to say that I was completely shocked when that video went viral out of nowhere. It gave me confidence and motivation to keep going.
The Knockturnal: For someone who might be inspired by your work and interested in creating TikToks, what advice would you give them?
Emma Norton: Having a background in the performing arts is a great foundation. I use special-effects make-up on my characters, so visual arts training is helpful. Trends are a great place to start. My advice is never be afraid to be as creative and original as possible. Put your own spin on everything you do.
The Knockturnal: What can fans expect to see next from you?
Emma Norton: There’s no shortage of ideas for future TikTok characters. Also, I’m working on a new YouTube channel. For years, my number one passion is acting. I hope fans will see me performing in film or television projects in the coming year!
