Netflix is expanding their collection of love stories with their latest release “Resort to Love.”Resort to Love takes place on the beautiful island of Mauritius. The tropical scenery of the southeast African island becomes a reunion rather than an escape for singer Erica who flees New York City in order to forget about a breakup and failed engagement. However, while beginning her new gig she finds herself becoming the intended entertainer for her ex-fiance’s wedding.

The film stars Sinqua Walls, Christina Milian, and Jay Pharoah. The talented trio combined emotional dialogue with comedic timing to create both thought and laughter. An aspect of the film that makes it stand out is the diversity and representation captured in both the cast and crew. Resort to Love is adding to the Black love stories being told today in the midst of so much pain. This is something that actor and star of the film Sinqua Walls doesn’t take lightly because there is power and healing within telling love stories of a people that have endured so much pain.

While discussing the film and his career Walls reflected on his journey as an actor and student of filmmaking. Wall’s interest in acting was sparked by the film Radio Flyer, and today the actor is a graduate of USF and is starring in his second Netflix film. For Walls, the set continues to be the classroom and his peers are his teachers. He has been able to learn more about himself and his craft through his work, and the time he spent working alongside Christina Milian and Jay Pharoah was no different. Sinqua reflected on Christina’s endurance through filming while pregnant and Jay Pharoh’s ability to put on the perfect impersonation.

The appreciation for his co-stars is shown throughout the film and even after. Resort to Love airs July 29, 2021, on Netflix.
