Lead singer and founder of Lord Huron, Ben Schneider, talks his new experience scoring Laurel Parmet’s upcoming film The Starling Girl.
Known for his multitude of hits, Ben Schneider, founder and lead singer of Lord Huron, makes his debut in film scoring for Laurel Parmet’s The Starling Girl. The young artist explained his process for music making as well as the differences between his usual process and adjustments he had to make.
Written and directed by Parmet, The Starling Girl is about 17-year-old Jem Starling (Eliza Scanlen) struggles with her place within her Christian fundamentalist community. As the story progresses, Jem begins to learn more about herself as she transitions into womanhood and her relationship with her father slowly deteriorates.Throughout our talk, Schneider took us through what differences he noticed between songwriting for films. He explained how he was forced to take a deeper look at where the song was coming from since the song is written from the perspective of a character in the film. We also covered how he knew music is what he was destined to do, and how he was able to channel his passion into something substantial.
The film is now playing in theaters!
