Visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann explores the life and music of Elvis Presley in ‘Elvis,’ starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks.
The film examines the complicated dynamic between Elvis (Butler) and his manager Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). Encapsulating everything from Presley’s rise to fame to his relationships with those closest to him, Elvis is a visually stunning cinematic drama.
Elvis also stars Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as B.B. King, Alton Mason as Little Richard, and Yola as Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Filmed primarily in Queensland, Australia, the movie has a formidable creative team behind the camera, complete with Oscar-winning production designer and costume designer Catherine Martin, Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Thomas Wood, and more.
“There was a whole block of a set built,” Kelvin Harrison Jr. shared. “Everything was real, and when you have a space like that and those details, it makes everything feel more alive, it makes all the performers – from the background performers to the principal performers coming on set — they feel like they’re immersed in a real world and the costumes, the details — you don’t have to act. They pay you to just have fun.”
See Elvis in theaters in North America on June 24 and internationally on June 22.
