Last week we sat down with the director and cast of Cyrano to talk about their experience shooting the romantic-period-musical Cyrano.
The film centers around Cyrano (Peter Dinklage), an incredible wordsmith who finds himself aiding his new friend Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) in his endeavors to woo the woman of their dreams: Roxanne (Haley Bennett).
We asked the cast how their experiences shooting musical and each cast member had a surprising answer.
“I think it was intimidating, first and foremost,” explained Harrison Jr., the young star of Waves (2019). “I wasn’t really sure how to really execute it. But that turned out to be one of the easier elements of the movie. Yes it was scary to it live, the choreography, staying in breath staying in tune… all those technical things. Once you get over the fact that I’m not trying to the be the ext American Idol I’m just trying to sing a song or story, you just sing from the heat and hope that people don’t just you for it.”
Haley Bennett had an interesting take as well. “Something we set out to do was allow ourselves to be heard at our most — rawest forms. None of us are singers, and it was important that we were able to express something other than perfection.”
Make sure the check out the full interviews to hear what else the cast and director Joe Wright had to say about their upcoming film Cyrano, in theaters Feb. 25.
