The Knockturnal was on the pink carpet for the New York premiere of The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Jessica Chastain stars as the iconic Tammy Faye Bakker and tells the famous story of husband and wife evangelicals through a new lens.
“It’s so exciting to be here!” Chastain said, dressed in a shimmering silver dress. “We’ve all had a difficult year and a half and I’m excited to celebrate this woman, to celebrate the incredible accomplishments she made and the wonderful things that she did for others, and to tell the true story of her to a new generation.”
Tammy Faye was known for her singing, and Chastain showed off her vocal chops in the film.
“I’ve never really thought of myself as a singer so I was definitely out of my comfort zone!” she said. ‘
Cherry Jones, who plays Tammy Faye’s mother, said, “As an actor, my favorite part of this film was just watching Jessica knock it out of the park, sort of against all odds. Because when you do someone who is so well known, that you can google her and watch her on youtube, and then to have the guts to then bring her to life in a wonderful script, I know she was terrified of it, and yet it was her idea, she was the producer. She’s just amazing!
Mark Wystrach plays Gary Paxton in the film and said he was honored to be in a film full of powerhouse actors.
“I’m humbled to be part of such a great cast,” Wystrach said. “I’m honored to share scenes with Andrew Garfield and Jessica and to be on a bill with Cherry Jones and Vincent D’Onofrio. I’m kind of pinching myself and wondering what the hell I’m doing here!”
The Eyes Of Tammy Faye hit theaters Friday, September 17.
