Don’t watch it alone! Greenland has premiered at no. 1 in both Italy and New Zealand and now it’s (finally) your chance to see it!
The action movie stars Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin and explores how humans – but specifically this family of three – handle a natural disaster. It’s an edge of your seat thriller which sometimes hits way too close to home. (There are falling asteroids so… literally.)
Baccarin tells The Knockturnal‘s Kinsey Schofield, “It’s a really emotional ride. Which is really rewarding as an actor to do. And for me, I really rarely read action films where the female is head to head with the male lead and where she doesn’t just sit passively, waiting to be rescued.”
Butler wants the audience to believe that you too are on the journey with them. “I was in the second I read it. Chomping at the bit to get going,” he enthusiastically explains. “I knew straight away. This was a special script.”
Butler was lured by the humanity and honesty of the film and admits that although his character, John, is a good man, he prioritizes his family and there are “devastating consequences as we have to drive passed our neighbors as they scream ‘Help us!'”
“Sometimes you have to look towards the end of the journey and realize the sacrifices that have to be made. That’s part of what is so powerful about this movie. Watching these decisions unfold in the moment that, even if they’re for the victory of the family, they’re so devastating to witness.”
In the video above, Baccarin talks about the love of being a mother and Butler and Baccarin discover something they didn’t know they had in common!
STXfilms’ Greenland premieres on-demand December 18th but will eventually make it’s way to HBO and HBO Max.
