From the mind of director Spencer Squire, Emma Roberts and John Gallagher Jr’s newest film will send chills down your spine, but not with a recognizable monster. Rather, the film explores a more psychological horror that will leave any viewer both intrigued and terrified. “With Abandoned, I was my intention to respectfully explore various psychological conditions, while employing certain non-gratuitous tropes of genre storytelling in order to authentically reinforce the mental states of the various characters,” Squire said. “As with those who struggle with mental health, there is often much more to the fight than meets the eye. It was my hope Abandoned would reflect this truth of the insidiously mysterious battle that occurs when one is at war with one’s own mind.”
Abandoned follows the story of Sara and her husband Alex as they move into an abandoned farmhouse, that they quickly learn is full of dark secrets. The already intense life of the couple is quickly thrown for a spiral as they try and navigate the horrors of the house, and a state of psychosis that Sara is quickly entering. The film is brutally intense and so incredibly well put together by the cast and crew.
