Exclusive: Cameron Jay Talks New Song ‘Ya Tu Sabe’

The multi-talented hip-hop recording artist, Cameron Jay’s new single, “Ya Tu Sabe,”  is the first off the forthcoming album “December Son.” It is a Spanish and English fusion and features Spanish artist, Ranjay, on it. The single is gaining momentum on Spotify playlists, as well as, radio plays. Cameron Jay is cementing himself as a new independent artist in the hip-hop community.

Born and raised in the Bronx, the New York native has performed at many iconic New York venues and opened up on stage for the likes of Trina, Joel Ortiz, Sadat X (of Brand Nubian), Craig G (of Juice Crew), and Steele (of Smiff N Wessun). His first mixtape was released in 2013, followed by two other installments in 2014 and 2016, respectively. The recent passing of both of his parents has deeply impacted his music and will be reflected on his forthcoming album, along with music for the parties, as well! Passionate and driven: Cameron Jay will continue to build his fanbase, release music, and perform shows; exactly what he was bred to do.

The Knockturnal: What’s the inspiration for your new song?

Cameron Jay: I had previously worked with Ran Jay and his group Monarkos on another a record called “Whine it,” and we spoke about making more music together. We wanted to do something sensual for ladies to vibe to it and something that guys didn’t mind listening to, and when I got the beat, I knew this was the right sound, and the words just came to me easily once I had it.

The Knockurnal: How was working with Ranjay?

Cameron Jay: Working with Ran Jay is great. He is very serious about his craft, the sound, and very detailed about what he puts out. I appreciate that because it shows people still care about the craft, and not just to throw anything out to say that they make music. It actually was a good experience both records that I did with him.

The Knockturnal: Tell us about the music video.

Cameron Jay: The music video is not complete, yet I am looking for people to get involved for cameos and make it something special, so if anyone wants to be in the video, they can always dm me @cameronjaymusik, and we can talk about bringing them in.

The Knockturnal: When did you realize you wanted to do music?

Cameron Jay: I realized I wanted to make music probably at 12. Not so much the rapping part but to be in the industry and work with artists. The more I wrote music and heard others from around my high school or around where I live at I realized I was just as good or better, and I can do it.

The Knockturnal: Who is an important mentor in your career?

Cameron Jay: An important mentor in my career, there are a few, one is my cousin. If he says I have a hot song, then I have a hot song because he doesn’t like anything, and he always was hard on me about getting the music done and work on my craft.
Two, Empress Lanice has guided me for the last few years, keeping me afloat and showing me how to move through all the fake and how to spot things that are just a waste of money or time. Three, my Manager at my old job. He was a producer, and he would always drop game on me and give me ideas and things to look out for.

The Knockturnal: How has New York-inspired you?

Cameron Jay: New York has inspired me with the hustle. Just seeing everybody get up and try to make it happen for themselves and their family. Also, the sound and the lyrics. The artistry that came out in the 90s and early 2000s when I grew up played a big part in me wanting to do music as well as care about what I say and how I say it.

The Knockturnal: Who would you like to collab with in the future? List a few artists and producers.

Cameron Jay: Ryan Leslie as a producer and an artist
Fabolous
Rick Ross
Diddy
Kanye west
Pusha T
Wale

The Knockurnal: What’s next for you?

Cameron Jay: What’s next for me is the release of my album “December Son.” These will be real songs this year. After that, I’m going to be promoting my label Net Worth Enterprises and focusing on building the brand and the lifestyle that comes with it.
