Embracing Pinktober at the Hard Rock Hotel New York: A Heartfelt High Tea and Strings for Hope

As we waved goodbye to one of the most productive and exciting summer seasons, The Knockturnal is welcoming fall with open arms.

Kicking off the season, I had the privilege of attending Hard Rock Hotel New York’s Pinktober celebration on October 1st, where they are “going pink” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My introduction to this heartfelt series of events began with the luxurious High Tea Pop-Up, a part of the hotel’s month-long fundraising efforts.

To be very honest, this was my first-ever high tea experience. As a guy who’s never attended one, I felt surprisingly regal, invited, and even demure. But beneath the polished silver and delicate sandwiches, the heart of the event was its partnership with Strings for Hope, an organization with a compelling backstory that gave this experience a deeper, more meaningful layer.

Established in 2010, Strings for Hope is a survivor-led initiative that has spent the last decade making a profound impact on the local Nashville community. By upcycling second-hand musical strings, they create job opportunities for individuals overcoming substance use disorder, domestic violence, and human trafficking. It’s an incredible mission led by a powerhouse team of women, crafting something beautiful from others’ stories of pain and resilience.

As a guitarist myself, I couldn’t help but feel connected to the symbolism of their work. A broken guitar string can halt a melody, much like trauma or hardship can pause a life. But to repurpose that broken string into something beautiful and meaningful is akin to reclaiming power, and that’s exactly what Strings for Hope does. CEO Emily Winters and her team embody the spirit of Nashville: kind, creative, and deeply musical. Their work, transforming discarded materials into wearable art, empowers survivors while contributing to the community.

Though I don’t usually wear much jewelry, I was humbled to receive a custom piece crafted from guitar strings right in front of my eyes during the event. Watching the artisans work their magic as they destringed a guitar and reimagined those strings into something entirely new held a profound meaning for me. I proudly wear that piece, and I’m honored to support such a powerful cause.

If you’re as moved by their mission as I am, I encourage you to support Strings for Hope by donating used guitar strings or purchasing their handmade jewelry. Every piece tells a story, and your contribution could help change someone’s life. Adding to the ambiance was the soulful performance by musical guest Najah Lewis. Her voice filled the room, rearranging top 40 hits in a way that silenced the hum of conversation at the tables. Accompanying herself on guitar, Najah created an intimate yet powerful vibe that resonated with every guest in the room. Her talent, along with her donation of guitar strings to Strings for Hope, only deepened the connection between music, hope, and healing that day. Pinktober at Hard Rock Hotel

The Strings for Hope Pop-Up took place on October 2nd, allowing guests to purchase or create jewelry and donate their used guitar strings. But the High Tea Pop-Up continues throughout October, taking place daily on the terrace of Sessions from 1-5 PM. A portion of the proceeds from the pre-fix menu, which includes mini sandwiches, petit fours, and a glass of bubbly, will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Additionally, throughout the month, guests can indulge in the Cosmo Hotline, an exclusive in-room dining offer that includes pink cosmos, tea, macarons, and bubbly, with a portion of proceeds supporting breast cancer research.
Pinktober at the Hard Rock Hotel New York is about more than just raising funds—it’s about creating a space where music, art, and community come together to uplift survivors and honor those affected by breast cancer. I’m excited to return to future events and learn more about how this iconic venue is evolving beyond the famous Hard Rock Cafe brand into a hub for musicians and music lovers alike.

The month-long Pinktober celebrations will be running through October, and I encourage you to visit, support, and take part in this inspiring cause.

Additionally, the Hard Rock Hotel is celebrating Pinktober with special events and offerings; discover more on their Pinktober landing page.
