The Knockturnal recently chatted with Drew Afualo, podcast host, author, and content creator, about her upcoming projects and partnerships this summer. Now that Drew’s podcast, “The Comment Section with Drew Afualo,” has moved to YouTube, she has big plans.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Drew Afualo, among others, found comfort and a place to express herself on TikTok. Before that, she worked in sports media, creating content for the NFL. Drew’s outspoken, unapologetic personality, which is reflected in her memoir, gained her a heavy following, especially after responding to misogynistic comments. TikTok was just the start for Drew. She is now a New York Times Bestselling author, red carpet correspondent, and host of her very own podcast.
Creators typically ignore the comment sections of social media, but Drew took the opportunity to explore them. Earlier episodes of “The Comment Section with Drew Afualo” consisted of topics like online hate and discourse, toxic masculinity, and feminism. Over time, the podcast began to center around conversational interviews with a different guest each week. Drew and her guests bounce off each other’s energy while discussing a range of topics, known to create comedic relief for viewers.
Drew recently partnered with Gillette Venus as their official SmoothGuard this summer. Drew considers herself a “shave apologist,” relying on the Gillette Venus Pubic Hair and Skin Razor for an easy and gentle shave. When stepping out into the sun, Drew believes, “However you like to present in your swimwear in the summer, whether you like to shave or not shave, Venus can be there for all your needs.” She has put her trust in Venus’ products for years and is delighted to work with them, providing tips all summer long for a smooth season.
And now, Drew couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunity to bring her podcast to YouTube. When asked what it means for the future of her podcast, she replied, “The general structure of my show will still stay the same and stay silly and stay amazing, but I think being on YouTube now gives me a lot more reach because prior to this with my previous partner, the video was exclusively on one place, and the barrier of entry to be able to watch my show was a little higher.” During Knockturnal’s interview with Drew, she also mentioned having “absolute banger episodes coming out,” as well as “some really, really huge, amazing guests,” marking the perfect time for her move to YouTube.
Alongside her role as podcast host, Drew is exploring other projects and partnerships, such as releasing her own “What Do You Meme?” limited edition expansion pack. It can be played with the original card game version. She has a love for board games, finding it “awesome and really fun” to work with “What Do You Meme?” They carried out what Drew had envisioned and even matched the game cover to her memoir.
