On Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, Childish Gambino and Willow Smith took the stage at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Arena. The New World Tour is Donald Glover’s final tour as his artist persona popularly known as Childish Gambino.

The night started with opening act Willow Smith performing some of her hit singles and newer songs like “Big Feelings” from her most recent album Empathogen released this past May. Her stage had a night of Egypt vibe as she stood dressed like a goddess alongside her incredibly talented band.

The crowd was full of eager fans wearing the artist Bando embroidered trucker hats merch, awaiting his arrival. The concert began with the artist popping out of the second stage that stood in the back of the arena’s floor. He wore an eye-catching astronaut-like helmet and an all-black latex outfit. After his opening entrance from the second stage, Gambino descended and popped up onto the main stage in front of the arena. His set was filled with interactive green strobe lights surrounding him and his dancers. The night was filled with dance, humor, and honoring the artist’s discography from old to new.

Surprise guest and Philly native Tierra Whack made an appearance during the evening. She sang her song, “Moovies” and later shared a heartwarming hug with Childish Gambino. As the show came close to an end, Gambino bounced back from both stages continuously asking “Philly are you real fans?” He ended his question by performing songs like “Les” from his albums Camp, Sober, and Kaui and the much-loved song”Redbone” from “Awaken, My Love!” Donald Glover provided fans with a proper farewell in the form of a dance party.

With strobe lights, throwbacks, and laughter, he truly created a night to remember. The artist is now off to continue his global tour to bring a close to the much-loved era of Childish Gambino.
