This past Tuesday, the Domenico Vacca flagship store in New York housed over 500 guests for a presentation of the designer’s SS18 collection, along with the exhibit opening of his collaborator Domingo Zapata.
Vacca’s line was meant to represent a day on an Italian resort, and he further explained the concept to us during the presentation, “It’s about a man and a woman really spending some time in Italy in a vacation place, could be the island of Capri or Portofino, Sardinia. It’s all about beautiful colors, and dressing up a little!”
The vibrant colors were indeed a staple of the collection, as the pieces lined up on the display took attendees on an Italian getaway. Both the men’s and womenswear were appropriate for an a chic vacation where one might find the need to dress to impress without feeling like they’re doing too much work, “We have jackets for men, but they’re completely deconstructed and lined so it’s like you’re putting a shirt on,” Vacca told us, “The same thing for women. Women I think want to dress up a little bit, so we also introduced beautiful jackets with plaid, with interesting design on the jackets.”
A standout out womenswear piece was definitely a satin red number in the front row that Vacca called one of his favorites, and was inspired by a dress worn by Sophia Loren in a film. Overall the Domenico Vacca SS18 line emanates stylish, modern, relaxation that will have wearers feeling carefree and looking chic.
